It has been a while since last I posted. I've been quite busy with our global supply chain management enterprise meeting as well as the
WERC conference. This year was my first time to attend. I found it to be a great experience overall and am looking forward to attending in
Chicago next year. By the way, when looking at the list of all the upcoming sessions, I found myself shocked to see the year 2010... it is staggering how close that is, really. 2010 seems like it should be so far off in the future but is so near.
This year's conference was held in my hometown, Nashville, TN. I was able to commute (oh joy). Because of another meeting that I was preparing for, I was only able to attend sessions on Monday but while I was there I did manage to attend the following:
Rapid Returns With Voice
It's a Small World With Big Differences
Psst... Hey Buddy... Wanna Great Deal?
Rapid Returns With Voice was an interesting overview of how ODW partnered with a company called Inther to incorporate voice pic technology into their mix of services. This session was not my favorite, overall, but the audience did ask many questions.
It's a Small World With Big Differences was presented by Jay Fortenberry, VP, Supply Chain Integration of
Honeywell International, Inc. This session was all about the challenges that Honeywell faced with their global supply chain and offered advice to others. Jay had a very detailed presentation and flew through the material and by the time the session was over I found that our time together was too short.
The only roundtable discussion that I was able to attend was Psst... Hey Buddy... Wanna Great Deal? I found the roundtable discussions beneficial as well. I love to hear what is on the minds of others and hear it in an unrehearsed manner. A roundtable discussion is certainly the place for such things. The audience was very engaged. The presenter was Barry Brandman, President of
Danbee Investigations. The session I attended focused on reducing theft through ways such as anonymous tip lines with large amounts of cash for clues and how to promote this. I did get there early and caught some of the previous session and believe C-TPAT to be a huge concern for companies. There was certainly not enough time allotted to discuss this topic. I did a search on WERC's website for
C-TPAT, if you are interested.
Then there was
Brian Billick, Head Coach of the Baltimore Ravens. I'm not a football fan but Brian Billick gave one of the greatest lunchtime speeches in all of business history, in my humble opinion. The topic was "Building a 'We' Environment in an 'I' World." I came away from lunch proudly proclaiming that I am a pig. Trust me, you had to be there.
Brian, if you are reading this, I appreciate your ability to deliver this speech in such a way so that even I as a non NFL fan could enjoy and learn.

For those of you who could not make it, we had quite a turn out for our
warehouse tours. We received some very positive feedback. If you attended one of our tours, please let us know your thoughts.
If you
missed the tour and would like to schedule one or you know someone who would be interested, please let us know.
